Law of Money

The amount of money you make has a direct correlation with how much benefit you bring to the world. You are paid in proportion to the difficulty of the problems you solve. If you solve a big problem, you get a big paycheck. Mark Zuckerberg founded Facebook which is used by more than a billion people, therefore he’s a billionaire. Billions of people use Microsoft software for their computer, therefore Bill Gates is a Billionaire.

You might be proud of your work and a hard working individual but are you solving problems that millions of people could benefit from? If not, seek to serve more people.

1 Corinthians 9:19 says, For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

If you want to make more money, you have to serve more people and increase your value to the marketplace. You increase your value by the person you become. Your level of income rarely exceeds your personal development. To have more, you have to become more. Start working on yourself and make personal changes. Develop unique skills that the world could benefit from. Identify your super power and build on it. Get better every day. As you get better, you will think better thoughts, have better ideas, and make better decisions.

3 Months Ahead

One should not just flow through life without goals. If you’re in existence, it is your duty to seek achievements. You do so by setting goals.

One advantage that I’ve had in life is that I always start my “New Year Resolutions” on October 1st. While most people wait for January 1st, I started 3 whole months before them. By doing so, I’m already ahead of the competition and can kick into a second gear while everyone else is just getting started. My personal fiscal year ends on September 30th and my new year starts on October 1st.

Another reason why I set my personal fiscal year to start on October 1st is because it’s my mother’s birthday. I celebrate her by being all that I can be and I know that’s what she wants for me everyday. It’s amazing having a mother like her who simply wants all the best for her son and made sacrifices to make sure I had opportunities to succeed in whatever I wanted growing up.

Sometimes, we are willing to do for others what we’re not willing do to for ourselves. Sometimes, you might be okay with letting yourself down but when there’s someone else that you don’t want to let down, you can always find that inner strength to persist and overcome. Identify who that person is in your life. Find your reason why and the actions you have to take to get to your desired results won’t matter.

Labor Day Wisdom

“Any fool can increase their labor hours for more money. The smart people find ways to decrease labor hours and make even more money.”

Most people have the mindset that, one has to work more to make more money. While very few people have the wisdom to work to establish a strong foundation then invest what they’ve earned to receive a return.

Buying brand-new cars or luxurious items don’t mean you’re doing well financially. If you have to make monthly payments, it means you’re in debt. If you have to finance your vacation, maybe it’s not the right time for you to go on a vacation. Be mindful of where you spend your money. Once you are drowning in debt, it’s hard to climb out of that hole to start having surpluses.

“You cannot solve problems at the same level of thinking that creates them.” – Albert Einstein.

Invest in your mind to get better so you can start making better decisions. You can start by investing in books, listening to audios or watching videos that will get you thinking positively.

As you begin each day, think about some changes that you’d like to make to get better. Don’t wait for the New Year to make a resolution. You can start TODAY. Take control of your life and aim toward the results you want. Don’t get stuck in analysis paralysis.

Foundation For Success

The reason most people don’t become successful is because they neglect to do the simple things. Procrastination is a hell of a drug just like cocaine. Check yourself into rehab and get it out of your system.

Clarify what you want to accomplish and make a list of the things that you need to do to accomplish it. Focus on the steps you have written down and do them repeatedly until you get the result that you want. Sometimes you may have to adjust the steps to get there but never the goal unless you’re expanding.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. But don’t use that as an excuse to quit after a few failed attempts. Make a new route to get to your destination if needed. Used the failed attempts as experience to build a better plan for your goals. Be wise enough to know when you need to stick to it and wait for a breakthrough or when to move on into a different strategy.

Success wouldn’t be rewarding or fulfilling if it was attained easily or instantly. There are a few things you must do and go through. You have to discipline yourself to do them REPEATEDLY. For instance, when you decide to start going to the gym, you don’t instantly get in shape. You have to go and workout repeatedly in order to improve to lose weight or gain muscle. It’s not achieved on the first set or the first day. Only the ones who are disciplined to follow through on a regular basis are successful. The process is the same for anything else in life that you’re trying to be successful at.

To conclude, Identify the things you need to do to be successful and don’t neglect to do them. Discipline yourself to follow through and don’t allow procrastination to take over. Success only comes when you follow through.

Selfish Decision

A selfish decision is when you decide to do something just for your own benefits and ignoring the wishes of others; When you put your own happiness first.

Traditional wisdom says to give, being selfish is not worth it and to put others first before your own. However, you have to be selfish at times. You have to put YOU first, your happiness, your dreams and goals, so that you can become what you were destined to be. You can’t be a people-pleaser all the time. There comes a time when you have to make a decision simply for yourself and stop caring what everyone else thinks. When you are ready to do that, that’s when you are ready to become all you were created to be.

Happiness and fulfillment are not achieved when you constantly care about what others think and when you let their opinions hold you back. It happens when you are secure to be on your own, ready to fly and leave the herd.

A closed mind can be detrimental to your life, happiness and success.

There’s a saying that goes like this, the mind is like a parachute, it only works when it’s open. Shutting down new ideas without giving it a fair chance to sync in to analyze how it could be a benefit to you can be very costly.

Piece of advice, if you’re entrepreneurial, when an opportunity present itself to you, just remember to open your mind before you open your mouth. Do your due diligence and see if the opportunity falls in line with your long term goals. Don’t be too quick to say no because in this entrepreneurial world, we may start with plan A and then finish with plan W for the win.

At the same time, one should not be too open. Just as a parachute needs to open to work, if it is too open, or open all the way, it won’t work and you will fall. Find the right balance of wisdom to know when to be open and when it’s time to just focus on what you’re already doing and just persevere.

Define, Learn, Do!

Objectives are vital for goal settings professionally and personally. The first step to a meaningful life is to clearly DEFINE your objective. You need to have a clear and precise purpose. You have to know what you want or what you don’t want. Sometimes we don’t know what we want but we know what we don’t want. Have it written down and express it publicly. By announcing your goals and dreams publicly, you are making a commitment to pursue what you want and have your loved ones hold you accountable. It’s a healthy pressure to put on yourself. It will force you to step outside your comfort zone to maximize your potential and increase your chances at accomplishing what you’re after.

Next step is to LEARN how to make your goals and dreams a reality. One way to do that is by finding a mentor. A mentor is someone who already has what you want. You learn from them about best approaches and get advice from them along the way. You don’t always need a live person to mentor you. There are plenty of books that you can read from authors and experts in your field of choice. By reading their books, listening to their educational audios, interviews and watching their videos you may learn from them. Learning doesn’t always come in the form of formal education. You can learn through self-education by reading the right books at your own pace or just signing up for a specific online class or get certified/licensed in a field. There are also some paths that you may choose where you will need a formal education and that it is required. Having a mentor will help guide you on which route you should take.

Lastly, just DO it! You have to apply what you’ve learned in order to produce results. Defining what you want and learning how to get it are great initial steps but you’re not going to accomplish anything by just defining and learning how to do it. You have to actually DO it and don’t wait until you think you know it all to start. If that’s the case, then you’ll never start because you’ll never know it all. Experience is the best teacher and don’t let initial failures discourage you. Execute as soon as possible and stay the course!

October 8th, 2017, 11:40 PM in Houston

As I am writing this, it is currently midnight October 9th. While driving home tonight, I was on I-45 heading North. If you live in Houston, that highway will sound familiar. Anyways, I saw a billboard that says… Look Inside Find Exceptional with the first letters of each words highlighted to spell LIFE. It was 11:40pm.

This definition of LIFE really made me think. Is it our purpose to find what makes us exceptional? I asked myself.

Before seeing this billboard tonight, I had another definition for LIFE. It was Living Intentionally For Excellence. So I decided to combine both definitions and then I came up with this hypothesis: We are in this thing call LIFE. We have to find what makes us exceptional and strive for excellence in it.

That made some sense to me but I thought it needed more clarity. So I decided to look up the definition of exceptional.

Exceptional is defined as unusual, not typical, unusually good, outstanding.

After reading the definition, I had an “ah-hah” moment.

Being exceptional does not mean you have to be perfect. We are imperfect beings.

To find what makes us exceptional, we have to find what makes us unusual, not typical, unusually good. And then, we will know what makes us outstanding.

In my case, here’s what makes me exceptional. I am a person who stutter when I speak. That is unusual, not typical, and unusually good in some scenarios. That’s what makes me OUTSTANDING.

What I learned tonight is this… What makes you outstanding does not always have to be a talent that the world praises you for, it can also be a disability or an impediment.

Moses from the Bible had a speech impediment and God chose him to lead the Israelites to Freedom. Just like Moses, I believe God put me on this earth to do something great.

Be great despite whatever obstacles you are facing. Your perceived weakness is your strength.

Destiny Decision

Ever got to a point in your life where you want to change some things?

When you get to that point in your life, that’s when you need to make a destiny decision. A destiny decision is a decision that doesn’t make sense but you just have faith that everything will work out. That’s when all the facts are saying you should not make that decision but you do it anyway and you stick with it. Your friends, your family, and the naysayers will tell you no but you won’t listen. It takes guts to make a destiny decision. Others won’t understand it but you will.

To be great, you have to be willing to be unreasonable. Just as, to be great is to be misunderstood. Be decisive when it comes to chasing greatness and don’t over analyze things. When you have faith, you’re free to proceed. Make decisions quickly when it falls in line with your vision and don’t change your mind every 2 seconds. Stick with it. Be resilient and persevere. Remember why you said yes the first time and make it work. Even if it doesn’t work out you will learn and you will get better.

Working for your destiny is different than working a job. When you work for your job, you have instant motivation. You do your assigned tasks, and you get to keep your job. You obey and work for 2 weeks to get a paycheck. That’s employee motivation. When you make a destiny decision, there’s no boss. Your dream is your boss. Your dream has to be big enough to force you to do what’s necessary and have discipline. Your dream has to be bigger than all the obstacles along the way. Have grit, be resilient, persevere and it will be worth it.

There’s a destiny within all of us. No matter our circumstances. We may not be the person who can fulfill that destiny as we are presently constructed. But we grow into it as we say yes to it. The timing and conditions will never be perfect, you must take a leap of faith and just do it.

Learn, Earn, Return

Here’s a quick backstory on myself. I attended University of South Florida as a student-athlete. One particular evening, the athletic department hosted a networking event to connect the student-athletes with the university’s top donors.  I was very ecstatic for this opportunity because I’ve always had aspirations to become wealthy and wanted to have a millionaire mentor.

At the event, the host introduced all the donors and I listened attentively to their background to decide which one that I would focus on getting connected with. I was able to pick out the one who I thought was the most successful and the one that I would want to be like. After having a conservation with him, I was able to get his personal cellphone number and successfully set up an appointment to have lunch with him. During the lunch, he taught me the concept of Learn, Earn, Return. Before meeting with him, I had never heard of it before.

Here’s how he explained it to me:

The first phase is to learn. By learning and getting educated, you will have knowledge. Everyone must learn something and be able to apply that knowledge into a marketable skill. That’s why we go to school to pick up a trade.

Second, you need to earn. After graduation, you get a job or start a business. Accumulate as much wealth as possible ethically by maximizing your potential in your respective field.

Third, return what you’ve earned. Give back to the less fortunate, to your community, your church and to causes that you care about.

After he explained that concept to me, I understood why he has donated so much money to the university and agreed to meet with me. He was in the return phase in his journey.  He wanted to share what God has blessed him with and be a blessing to others. He was a philanthropist.

At the conclusion of our meeting, I had a meaningful reason to strive for wealth. Initially, I wanted wealth for selfish reasons but now I wanted to help others. No matter what title we may hold today, it’s important to strive to become a philanthropist at some point in our lives.
